August 29-02

Objective: Introduce the concept of collage by creating a Vision Board.

Your vision board should focus on how you want to feel, not just on things that you want.  It’s great to include the material stuff, too. However, the more your board focuses on how you want to feel, the more it will come to life.

There is only one major rule to creating a vision board that works, and it’s that there aren’t any rules. You aren’t going to mess it up, you can create your vision board on your own terms. Here are the answers to the most common questions people ask:

Q: What should I put on my vision board?

A: Anything that inspires and motivates you. The purpose of your vision board is to bring everything on it to life. First, think about what your goals are in the following areas: relationships with family and friends, career, home, travel, personal growth (including spirituality, social life, and education) and health.

Language Arts 29 Aug – Sep 2

8th graders will start their first book of the quarter titled “Jacob, Have I Loved”.  It’s a book about sibling rivalry and coming of age.  Most of the book will be read in-class along with daily activities about the theme, setting and conflict of the novel.  The overall objective of this novel is not a traditional book report but a video upload of the student’s choosing to be viewed by the next 8th grade class next year.  Students can choose a Fan Fiction, a cliff notes chat or a book trailer.

This week there will be two homework assignments on Wednesday (due Thursday) and over the weekend in preparation of Monday’s essential question essay.  The weekend homework is important to be a video chat in preparation of the end assignment of a video upload.
