Language Arts October 26-30

8th graders will spend the rest of this week tightening up the 4 scripts for the anti-bullying presentation and revising their essay.  The homework for the week is the essay, which is due on Thursday.  There will be a re-teach lesson on citation and the reasoning behind it.  The presentation will be on Friday to the 6th graders.  The 6th graders will evaluate the content of the presentation and the performance objectively through an evaluation process.  8th graders will receive two grades, one for the essay and one from the evaluation from the 6th graders based on their performance. There will be not test/quiz.

Language Arts October 19-22

Also for the 8th grader, time had to be spent working on their rough draft for their science research paper and the anti-bullying essay and presentation.  The groups have been assigned and they have an outline on the pause/play presentation.  Plus, the brainstorming for their essay is complete.  I’m very impressed how the 8th graders are taking this presentation (and essay writing) seriously.  They are allowed a certain amount of independence in the classroom and I want to keep the lesson student-driven.  Since there is a presentation involved with their essay, there will be no test/quiz in the formal sense; their test is the presentation and feedback from the 6th graders.  Homework will be writing/revising their anti-bullying essay.

8th Grade Language Arts October 12-16

8th graders will be working on the anti-bullying recommendation essay and presentation.  The groups have been assigned and they have started research on their anti-bullying topic and brainstormed for their presentation.  8th graders also have a rough draft of their science essay due on Wednesday and so they will receive support for the structure of their essay plus improvement on their citing abilities.  The majority of their homework will be editing/revising their science essay rough draft and rough draft for their anti-bullying essay. They will receive a grade for the essay and the anti-bullying presentation to the 6th grade class. There will be no test/quiz.
